Norman Sr. Calls Ennis Hater Over Crawford’s Canelo Win

Trainer Brian Norman Sr. says Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis is a “hater” for failing to praise Terence Crawford for his victory over Canelo Alvarez on September 13th.

Norman Sr. Fires at Boots Ennis

Ennis gave a two-word response when asked about his thoughts on Crawford’s victory, saying, “It’s boxing.” Norman Sr. felt that Ennis should have poured on the praise of Bud like many fans and media members have been doing for his win over the undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo.

“They asked the man a simple question, they asked him about the performance, and what are you thinking? What do you think? The man [Ennis] said, ‘It’s boxing.’ Why can’t you just give him his props? You got a problem with anybody else? You’re a hater, bro. Clearly, he hates him,” said Brian Norman Sr. to MillCity Boxing about Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis not praising Terence Crawford for his victory over Canelo Alvarez.

Why Ennis Refuses to Fake Praise for Crawford

If Ennis didn’t believe that what Crawford did was special, why should he be forced to tell a lie? Just because Norman Sr. thought Crawford had turned in a 24k gold effort doesn’t mean ‘Boots’ should fall in line lockstep to tell a fib. I agree with Ennis. That was a classic Jerry-esque performance if I ever saw one.

Even the undercard fights from the obscure “hungry” prospects turned in more entertaining performances than Crawford. Where was the courage from the Omaha, Nebraska native? I didn’t see any.

Crawford didn’t look all that impressive in winning a 12-round unanimous decision over Canelo. He moved most of the fight, and only pulled out the decision after Alvarez faded in the last four rounds. The scores were 115-113, 115-113, and 116-112.

If Crawford had stood and fought, it would be understandable for Ennis to pour on the praise. But he was moving around all night, fighting in a similar way to how Shakur Stevenson, his close friend, fights. That fighting approach is alien to how Ennis fights, as he mixes it up with his opponents. He doesn’t run around the ring like Crawford did.

Undercard Fighters Outshined Bud

It wasn’t an outstanding performance, even compared to some of the undercard clashes between super middleweights Christian Mbilli and Lester Martinez. Those two looked much superior to the effort that Crawford turned in.

When ‘Boots’ was asked if he thought Crawford deserved to be on the Mount Rushmore of boxing for his win over Canelo, he said, “everybody got their own opinion. I like who I like.” Ennis then rattled off Sugar Ray Leonard, Roy Jones Jr., Floyd Mayweather Jr., and James Toney.

Crawford’s Legacy Falls Short of Rushmore Status

A lot of people have been saying that Crawford (42-0, 31 KOs) deserves to be among the top four. Even Crawford is saying that he belongs in one of those spots, meaning he feels his credentials prove he’s proven more than one of these fighters:
