Oleksandr Usyk says one man stands alone as the greatest fighter of all time

Oleksandr Usyk, who is arguably the current pound-for-pound king, has revealed who he feels is the greatest fighter of all time.

Many believe this particular individual to be a toss-up between Sugar Ray Robinson and Muhammad Ali: Two of the most decorated champions to have graced this sport.

And yet, when considering his sheer longevity, a career that includes a staggering 201 professional bouts, it is tempting to side with two-weight world champion Robinson.

The American, who navigated a remarkable 91-fight unbeaten run across eight years, also faced the sternest of opposition at welter and middleweight.

Perhaps most notably, Robinson engaged in a compelling rivalry with Jake LaMotta, another pound-for-pound legend, who he defeated five times while losing just one of their middleweight contests.

But while Robinson cultivated a phenomenal resume, the same could also be said for Ali, who came up against several all-time greats in the heavyweight division.

His first world title shot arrived in 1964, back when the Rome Olympic champion pulled off a terrific upset to dethrone Sonny Liston with a stunning sixth-round finish.

After that, Ali would go on to avenge earlier defeats to Joe Frazier and Ken Norton, before pulling off another major upset against George Foreman in 1974.

When considering his wins over the likes of Earnie Shavers – arguably the biggest puncher in the history of the sport – and Ron Lyle, too, it becomes increasingly difficult to not put ‘The Greatest’ at the top of an all-time pound-for-pound list.

It is perhaps only natural, then, that Usyk, the current heavyweight king, said in an interview with DAZN that Ali is his ‘GOAT’ – Greatest of all Time.

As for Usyk’s own career, he will return to action in 2026 and has recently revealed that he is interesting in a fight with former WBC champion Deontay Wilder.
