Roy Jones Jr says current world champion will retire undefeated: “Nobody is beating him”

Roy Jones Jr spent a lot of his own career being described as unbeatable, and he has now named the active fighter he believes that also currently applies to.

Jones spent many years as the pound-for-pound number one fighter in the sport, overcoming all challenges throughout the 1990s and early 2000s as he claimed world honours at middleweight, super-middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight.

He defeated a number of boxing legends along the way, such as Bernard Hopkins and James Toney, but the American then suffered his fair share of defeats towards the end of his career when he was past his best, as he ended with 10 losses.

Jones feels there is one current fighter that won’t go down that same path though, telling The Ring that he thinks nobody will be able to get the better of heavyweight king Oleksandr Usyk.

“I don’t see anyone beating him at this point.”

Usyk has had a career that most boxers would dream of, having first cleaned out the cruiserweight division to become undisputed in 2018.

He then moved up to heavyweight, where wins against the likes of Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois has seen the Ukrainian become a two-time undisputed champion in the banner division.

Usyk’s next move is currently unknown, after recently vacating the WBO belt which has led to Fabio Wardley being elevated to full champion.

It leaves Usyk with the WBC, WBA and IBF titles, with fans speculating that a fight against Agit Kabayel could be next provided that Kabayel first beats Damian Knyba in January.
