A Stay-Busy Night for ‘El Divino’

It’s a stay-busy fight for the unbeaten Espinoza, who has been out of action since  May 4, 2025, when he stopped Edward Vazquez in seven rounds. Espinoza, 6’1″, has been avoided by the top fighters at 126 because his size, power, and skills make him too dangerous for the popular fighters to tangle with.

Saturday’s Espinoza vs. Khegai event will be shown live on Top Rank Classics Fast Channel starting at 8:00 p.m. ET / 5:00 p.m. PT.

Weights

  • Rafael Espinoza 125.4 vs. Arnold Khegai 125.4
  • Emiliano Vargas 139.8 vs. Jonathan Montrel 139.8
  • Lindolfo Delgado 139 vs. Gabriel Gollaz Valenzuela 139.2
  • Richard Torrez Jr. 223.6 vs. Tomas Salek 231
  • Julian Montalvo 130.2 vs. Nicolas Patron 131.6

Torrez Jr. Takes a Step Backward in Class

2020 Olympic Silver medalist Richard Torrez Jr. (13-0, 11 KOs) faces Tomas Salek (23-7, 14 KOs) in a 10-round fight. This is a big step down in class for the 26-year-old southpaw Torrez Jr. from his last fight against Guido Vianello earlier this year on April 5, 2025. But with Top Rank’s eight-year deal with ESPN expiring last July, it’s understandable why he’s not facing a bigger name.

Will Itauma Risk It? Silence So Far

“I want that fight. I want that Itauma fight. I think that would be a great fight,” said Torrez Jr. to Sean Zittel on X about his interest in fighting Moses Itauma. “If anyone wants to know if he’s ready for Usyk or not, look at me. I’m a lefty, I have pressure, I punch a lot.”

Thus far, there’s been no word from Moses Itauma about whether he’ll take Torrez Jr. up on his offer to fight him. Given the high risk involved for the British fighter, Itauma, it’s unlikely he’ll step up.

“Everyone says you can’t have a heavyweight that is a Mexican champion, and I want to prove them wrong. I want to be the first. Well, not the first. I want to be the second. I want to he the first guy that defends a world title belt,” said Richard Torrez Jr to Gabe Rivas.

“I want to get to that #1 spot. It gives me that drive. He’s a good European fighter. He’s a veteran,” said Torrez Jr. about his opponent, Tomas Salek. “I’m excited to show what I have to offer. We’ve been training extremely hard for the past two and a half months. I’ve been out since April. It’s been one of my longest layoffs in my professional career. I’m really excited to get back in that ring.”
