Vasiliy Lomachenko has given his answer on whether or not he will return to the ring.
The gifted Ukrainian announced his retirement from the sport in June this year –– just over 12 months after outclassing George Kambosos Jr to become a two-time world lightweight champion.
His 21-fight career –– which included title wins in featherweight and super-featherweight –– looked to have time left after his dazzling performance in Australia against Kambosos.
In an Instagram post, however, Lomachenko revealed he was hanging up the gloves.
“I’m thankful that, as my career comes to an end, I’ve gained clarity about the direction a person must take in order to achieve victory.
“My father not only taught me the art of boxing but how to be a role model for my own children – the same way he has always been for me.
“I’ve made many mistakes in life, and in the gym, but he has always been by my side.”
The two-time Olympic gold medallist has recently seen his name mentioned once again after he was linked to a clash of legends against Manny Pacquiao. At a recent WBO convention in Colombia –– where Lomachenko’s legacy was honoured –– Fight News caught up with the 37-year-old who explained his decision to retire.
“It was not difficult because I lost my motivation.”
With rumours of the bout against Pacquiao swirling, he then revealed if he has any plans to return.
“It makes no sense talking about this because I’m finished with boxing.”
It seems that Lomachenko will be sticking to his decision, retiring with 18 wins and three losses having fought in 17 world title fights.
