Lamont Roach Blasts Gervonta Davis Over $40M Jake Paul Fight

Lamont Roach revealed today the reason he was so upset with Gervonta Davis breaching the contractual rematch in favor of the Jake Paul exhibition is that no one reached out to him to pay him a step aside.

$40 Million and Silence

What makes it look worse is that Tank is reportedly getting $40 million for the Jake Paul fight on November 14th. Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs) isn’t getting any of that. He’d have liked a little taste to wet his beak in some of that loot that Davis will be enjoying. That’s not going to happen. Seeing Tank get that kind of dough would leave anyone embittered, harping about it for weeks without shutting up. $4 or $5 million would have been nice.

Roach will be getting a far smaller payday in a lesser fight against WBC interim light welterweight champion Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz (28-3-1, 18 KOs) on December 6 on Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on Prime Video PPV at the Frost Bank Center, San Antonio, Texas.

The money won’t be as good, and he won’t be getting the step aside that he deserved for a double payday.

Roach Left Empty-Handed

“He’s going to go and fight and get this money, and I’m not supposed to get anything?” said Lamont Roach to Ring Champs, complaining about Gervonta Davis in breach of contract, walking away from their fight to get a reported $40 million for the November 14th exhibition match against Jake Paul. Roach says he wasn’t given a step aside.

Roach doesn’t like the lack of professionalism and respect that Team Tank showed toward him. They just wanted him to sit and be cool with it, with the contract being overlooked, while Gervonta goes off and picks up a $40 million paycheck.

“I’d Have Paid Him Something”

“If I was in his shoes and he was in my shoes, I would call him, and say, ‘We’re going to take this Jake Paul fight. We’re going to give you XYZ to step aside. We might revisit, or we might not revisit. Let’s figure this out. I’m getting a big opportunity. Let me see what I can work out.’ Ain’t none of that happened,” said Roach.
