Will Canelo’s Power Fade? ‘BoMac’ Predicts A Later-Round Domination For Crawford In Las Vegas

Trainer Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre says Canelo Alvarez’s power won’t “be able to sustain” him in his fight against Terence Crawford on September 13th. ‘BoMac,’ who trains Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) states that Canelo (63-2-2, 39 KOs) fades in the sixth or seventh rounds. Once that happens, ‘BoMac’ says it’ll be a “wrap” for Crawford, who will then dominate the remainder of the fight.

Canelo will defend his undisputed super middleweight championship against Crawford at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. The event will be shown live on Netflix.

Canelo’s Fading Endurance

“I don’t give a f*** about that power. How do you beat power? Timing,” said trainer Brian ‘BoMac’ McIntyre to Ring Magazine when asked if he’s concerned about Canelo Alvarez’s power for his fighter Terence Crawford. “That power ain’t going to be able to sustain you throughout the fight. Watch.”

Crawford will need to do a better job of avoiding Canelo’s power punches than he did in his last fight against Israil Madrimov on August 3, 2024. Of the 84 punches Madrimov landed, 65 of them were power punches. He connected at a higher percentage than Crawford, at 31% to 22%. How much of that was attributed to inactivity, and the age of Bud is unknown.

“Madrimov did give Crawford problems. At 154, he gave you problems. At 168, it’s different,” said fighter Gabe Rosado on YouTube.

“He usually slows down between six and seven,” said BoMac about Canelo. “You slow down, that’s a wrap. I seen him slow down going into the later rounds, and I seen his a** get outboxed.”

Canelo still showed a lot of power in the later rounds, 10, 11, and 12 in his last two fights against William Scull and Edgar Berlanga.

“Canelo’s power was relentless, even in the championship rounds. In rounds 10 and 11, he was still landing 50% of his power shots, backing Berlanga to the ropes,” said journalist Brian Campbell to CBS Sports.

Fans See Canelo’s Edge

  5. Ring generalship

A Search for Respect

“The workouts and the sparring partners, that s*** don’t mean nothing when you step in that ring,” said Bomac. “I feel like these people don’t respect the knowledge and don’t respect the skills because we’re from Omaha, Nebraska. Nothing big came out of Omaha, as far as boxing goes. We can go knock off [Canelo] in a couple of weeks, and then come back. In my heart, I feel they don’t respect us,” said BoMac.

If Crawford can defeat Canelo on September 13th, people will respect him and ‘BoMac’ more. It may require that Crawford continue fighting to prove himself to some fans, as many believe that the 35-year-old Canelo has been showing signs of decline since his 12-round unanimous decision loss to Dmitry Bivol on May 7, 2022. Canelo has experienced a knockout drought in his last seven fights.
