Xander Zayas (22-0, 13 KOs) defeated Jorge ‘Chino’ Garcia Perez (33-5, 26 KOs) by a 12-round unanimous decision to capture the vacant WBO World junior middleweight title on Saturday night at the Madison Square Garden Theater in New York City. Zayas spent the entire night holding and moving. Xander’s clinching was excessive.

In the first three rounds, Zayas had the edge with Garcia ending the third with a flurry. In the fourth through the eighth rounds, Zayas had the edge.

In the eleventh round, Zayas took another round. In the twelfth and final round, Zayas outworked Garcia.

The scores were 116-112, 115-110, and 119-109. Eric Dali was the referee.

In the co-main event, Bruce ‘Shu Shu’ Carrington, Jr. (16-0, 9 KOs) defeated WBO Africa champ Mateus Heita (14-1, 9 KOs) by a 12-round unanimous decision to win the WBC interim World featherweight title.

In the first three rounds, Carrington had his way with Heita. In the fourth round, it was a big round for Carrington. In the final minute, he countered a jab with a right uppercut to the chin of Heita. In the sixth round’s final seconds, Carrington landed a left hook to the chin of Heita.

In the ninth and tenth rounds, Carrington continued beating Heita to the punch. In the twelfth and final round, it looked like Carrington pitched a shutout.

The scores were 120-108, 120-108, and 119-109. Harvey Dock was the referee.

Featherweight Yan ‘Dangerous’ Carlos Santana-Guerrero (15-0, 12 KOs) defeated southpaw Aaron Alameda (30-3, 17 KOs) by a 10-round unanimous decision to win the NABO featherweight title.

In the third round, Santana dominated hurt Alameda in the final seconds with a combination to the head. In the sixth round, Santana rocked Alameda with a right on the chin halfway through the round.

In the ninth round, Santana landed numerous lead rights to the head of Alameda. In the tenth and final round, Alameda has a bruise under his left eye at this time. Santana had fun in the final round as Alameda followed him around the ring, not able to cut the ring off, getting countered for the entire round.

Scores were 100-90, 100-90, and 100-90. Shana Murdock was the referee.

WBO Inter-Continental champion Rohan ‘El Rayo’ Polanco (17-0, 10 KOs) easily beat Quinton ‘Quick Draw’ Randall (15-3-1, 3 KOs) by a one-sided 10-round unanimous decision.

In the first three rounds, it was all Polanco. In the fourth round, Polanco landed a combination to the chin, rocking Randall after a minute into the round.

In the eighth round, Randall landed an overhand right to the chin of Polanco, probably his best punch yet. In the ninth round, Polanco again regained control in a winning but tough fight. In the tenth and final round, both know the fight is on the line, though Polanco looks like a sure winner.

Scores 97-93, 100-90, and 99-91. Shawn Clark was the referee.

Super flyweight Steven Navarro (7-0, 5 KOs) defeated tough Christopher ‘Vago’ Rios (13-3, 7 KOs) by an eight-round unanimous decision.

In the third round, due to a clash of heads, Navarro suffered a cut on his left eyebrow. Navarro is well ahead at this time. In the fourth round, Navarro switched to southpaw, taking another round. In the fifth round, Navarro outworked Rios. In the sixth round, Rios continues pressing Navarro, who lacks a jab, but makes up for it with a two-handed counterattack against Rios.

In the seventh round, Navarro hurt Rios with a fight-ending uppercut to the body in the final minute. In the eighth and final rounds it was possibly the best with both letting it all hang out.

The scores were 77-75, 77-75, and 77-75.

Light welterweight ‘El General‘ Emiliano Fernando Vargas (15-0, 13 KOs) knocked out Alexander Espinosa (20-4-1, 9 KOs) at 0:42 of the first round of a scheduled eight rounds.

In the first round, Vargas took a jab from Espinosa and countered it with a solid right on the chin, dropping Espinosa as Referee Ricky Gonzalez waved it off at ten as Espinosa could not regain his feet.

Super flyweight southpaw Juanma ‘Juanmita’ Lopez De Jesus (3-0, 2 KOs) stopped Jorge L. ‘El Leon Gonzalez-Sanchez (5-3, 4 KOs) at 1:14 of the second round of a scheduled four rounds.

In the first round, after a minute, a counter left from Lopez on the chin and down went Gonzalez-Sanchez for an 8-count from referee Shada Murdock. With a minute to go, a combo dropped Gonzalez-Sanchez. In the second round, it seemed their feet got entangled when Gonzalez-Sanchez went down when Referee Murdock seemed to stop what was a mismatch prematurely.

Featherweight Julius ‘Chu Chu’ Ballo (1-0) beat Brandan Ayala (2-1, 1 KO) by a four-round unanimous decision.

In the first three rounds, Ballo had the edge. In the fourth and final round, it could have gone either way.

The scores were 40-36, 40-36, and 40-36. Shawn Clark was the referee.

The Ring Announcer was Jimmy Lennon, Jr.
